'Storysmiths' is looking for short stories to publish in biannual compilations of approximately 10 stories each, (dependent on word count of final selected works).
We are interested in short stories, typically speculative fiction, sci-fi or fantasy however we will consider widely across genres provided the story takes the reader from the here and now, with a touch of adventure or the surreal.

Core Criteria
Work must be your own.
Work must not be the product, either in whole or in part, of generative AI.
Work must not have been published prior.
Between 3,000 and 7,500 words.
Word Count
Formatting
Submitted as .docx files or .pdf
Double-spaced.
12-point font size in Times New Roman
Speculative fiction, sci-fi and fantasy however works will be considered across genres*.
Light to dark. Serious to whimsical.
*What we do need to see is a story that takes our readers from the here and now.

Storysmiths requests first and enduring publication rights for both print and digital publication.
Copyright is retained by the author.
'Storysmiths' pays a flat rate of NZ$100 for selected final works.
Multiple submissions are accepted.

We have two issues a year scheduled for release in October and April. We recommend joining our mailing list for updates on submission dates.
Please note: The October edition is open to New Zealand citizen and resident writer's only (proof may be requested). We are a part of the New Zealand writing community and this is how we hope to support, if only a little, New Zealand talent getting out into the world.
